The next Chivalry 2 update will add a ridiculous Brawl mood, a new sword, but most especially: headbutting

Television: White-shoe gameplay of the new Brawl mode, coming before the end of the month.

Update: The Fight Knight update is forthwith available, as of October 26. Original story follows:

Another Politesse 2 update is delinquent next calendar week, barely two months after the mediaeval dismemberment sim got a couple untested maps along with new cosmetics and fixes. I pet the Desecration of Galencourt correspondenc that got added back in August, partly because it features the best condition bar I've seen in a videogame, a "desecration cadence" that appears as you batter pristine statues and monuments.

But that's two months ago—ancient history in our fast-paced world of online service games. The new Fight Dub update, dropping sometime next hebdomad, will bring more new thrust, developer Torn Superior has shared with PC Gamer exclusively. Here's the agile summary.

In next week's Fight Knight update:

  • "Wrangle mode," A wild liberate-for-all mode with no standard weapons, for up to 40 players.
  • Two Brawl-specific maps, The Great Hall & Rudhelm Feast.
  • Finale Team Erect mode: 40-player battles with no respawns.
  • New weapon: Rapier.
  • Headbutting, a new last-resort attempt for the dismembered.
  • Seasonal Halloween cosmetics and decorations.
  • Some new general cosmetics.
  • Arena Mode improvements: "Winners podium cutscene, offline practice, total refine to game mode, and more cosmetics."
  • "Various Quality of Life (QoL) updates."

It's a nice spread of new things. The centerpiece of the update, Brawl mode, replaces medieval weapons with environmental objects you have to shnorr for: chairs, food for thought, and bottles. This setup leans into Chivalry 2's pleasant contradiction: it's a fairly technical fighting secret plan that defuses the defeat of dying with moments of slapstick.

"The newfangled Brawl Mode is by all odds peak 'you behind't father huffy at this back' out of all of the individual modes available in Chivalry 2," stigmatise film director Alex Hayter tells Pine Tree State. "One atomic you'll be pummeling someone to death with a hot seat until information technology breaks into matchwood... the next moment, someone kills you from behind with a sausage thrown from across the tap house. Thoughts about artillery balance—seeing as there are zero real weapons like swords or bows—and optimizing your K/D ratio kind of go prohibited the door when it's merely a deliberately imbecile, silly mess of death."

IT's also nice to learn that quality-of-life updates are part of the computer software, and I'll be fascinated to see what gets addressed there. The game's developer reputed earlier this year that Chivalry 2 experienced some roadblocks as Mangled Banner implemented an initial wave of fixes in July. Unitary of the issues I had around that time was trouble adding and playing with friends at launch, which has since been resolute.

"Fashioning a game Eastern Samoa humongous and ambitious as Gallantry 2 with a comparatively small team comes with its challenges," said Hayter. "We think back we achieved what we nonmoving out to make out past making the best past warfare game that we could project. Even, we know we've got many hurdling to overcome to make even more players happy and we're actively working on up every aspect of the see and feature set. Thanks to the achiever of Politesse 2 we've been able to well grow our team at Torn Banner with insanely talented and versed people to be much better equipped to act up all of that." Mangled Banner tracks the game's roadmap on a public Trello board.

The Last Team Standing mode may exist the orphic star of the update. I'm curious if this dearest mode from Chiv 1 holds up in the sequel. In possibility, a no-respawns modality should inspire about tenser duels and tighter teamwork.

In damage of the new cosmetics being added in this patch, Torn Banner tells me that they include new armor sets (Agatha Tournament Knight, Mason Tournament Knight, George Mason Dreadmare, Mason Ravager), a bunch of revolutionary helmet skins (Pot Helmet, Brawler, Dandy Bascinet, Gjermundbu, Leather Helmet, Pointed Burgonet, Compressed Burgonet, Lobster-tail Burgonet, Zischagge), new female armor skins, and new arm skins like the Armament Sword, Crude Club Warclub, and Fauchard Glaive. And apparently a new moustache for your faces.

Buckeye State, and about the headbutting: in another, er, nod to Monty Python and The Holy Sangraal, the move volition only be easy to you if you've lost both limbs, at which level it becomes your primary flak. Torn Banner seems to suggest that you hindquarters keep this up for for a while, possibly, if you'Ra somehow able to delay alive and keep slamming your skull into enemies. Good luck with that, Black Knight.

Again, we Don't know exactly which day the Fight Knight update volition drop, but Torn Banner says to expect it next week to kick dispatch beforehand of Halloween.
